Fall Fishing

I do want to take a minute to talk about Fall Fishing and trolling in the Rogue Bay. With the introduction and use of the 360 Flashers, I’ve listened to a lot of my clients, and a few of other guides clients, not to mention what I’ve witnessed out there on the bay. Guides tightening their drags down with those 360 Flashers on and yarding in fish for an 8 second fight. I really don’t think that’s the experience people are looking for so I’m going to make a point of NOT yarding in fish this year.

It may be that I choose NOT to use the 360 Flashers and go old school; I may not catch as many fish as some guides when I do this (and it may be that I catch more – we’ll see), but I think fishermen want to fight these fish.

It shouldn’t be about numbers or bragging rights. If all a person wants is to reel something in, I suppose I can tie a brick on the end and you can yard that brick in all day, but I don’t think that’s actually what people want. My experience says people want to feel these fish pull out line and they’d better be on their game or that fish is going to make them look silly. When it’s all said and done, if all you’re looking for is numbers, then maybe I’m not the guide for you. But…if you’re looking to experience the full fight, and maybe avoid the big circus loops down by the sand spit, then by all means, book you trip and let’s go have some fun!

But again, right now we’re focused on Springer Salmon Fishing and it’s looking good! Hoper to see you out there.  Tight lines and fair winds!
