Rogue River Fishing Conditions 5-19-2018 (Rogue River Salmon Fishing)

Hello there fisher people 🙂

Fishing in slow on the Rogue while we wait for the water to warm to get the fish to hold. Not many fish are being caught upstream or downstream, and though a couple have been caught trolling in the bay, the water is still a little on the cool side for trolling to be effective. The weather is expected to warm up in Medford/Grants Pass, so I expect to see the river warm in the next week to ten days. The last update I got from down south was about ten days ago – the fall fish were moving up the coast ahead of Point Loma, which put them about three to four weeks from the Rogue, so they should be about two to three weeks out now. I expect to see more fish moving in with a mixture of fall fish and springers which should make early fishing pretty good once the bay warms up.

We’re expecting this year to be similar to last year, as far as catch rates, although these fish should be four year olds – which means lots of limits, and bigger fish. We still have a lot of days to fill on the calendar, but if you’re thinking about fishing for salmon on the Rogue this year, you might want to get to planning and book your trips. Once it starts filling, I expect days to fill up pretty quickly.

Tight lines and fair winds, my friends 🙂

Justin
